View Full Version : Are wrestling fans really dumb slobs?

If we aren't, explain why some people are calling Chris Jericho's great clothing and intelligent oratory a "heel tactic." Having style and a decent vocabulary is now exclusively a trait of the bad guys? If that's the case, we are so far gone as a society that it's not even funny.

No I don't thinks its that extreme, the average wrestling fan hates stuck up people.

The well-groomed and well-spoken portion of the wrestling audience, represented in this discussion by me, thinks "stuck up" is a strong word used by those who aren't up to the grooming or intellectual standards set by Chris Jericho to create and "us and them" conflict to deal with their own insecurities. In no way should Jericho's exceptional dress or vocabulary be considered a "heel tactic."

Maybe it's because they interpret this new Jericho as a representation of 'the Man', and don't appreciate a lively, colourful entertainer abandoning that credo to become conservative, self-centered and insulting towards the audience every single time he's on TV.

I agree with you Coco, that articulation and a professional attire should not be the basis for heat. If only more people could be bothered to speak correctly and if only it wasn't fashionable to dress like a tramp these days, but that's the 21st century mentality i'm afraid.

I think that, what those people should mean, is that it's just another way that Jericho tries to show he is better than, and above, everyone else. It's kind of the same road Ric Flair went, with the extravagant robes, nice suits, jewelry etc. It's just the "I think I'm far superior to you, and you aren't worthy of my time" type of thing.

I don't know that it's necessarily a heel tactic, but I think it can further a heel character.

I don't like the fact that he's considerably shorter than Edge. He should fix that.

Nah man, pogo-wrestling would be soooooo much better. Although the spot monkeys would push it to a whole new extreme....

I tend to pride myself on my ability to speak properly, but i will admit that 90% of the time i do dress like a douche
