Back in the good ol' days, they had some fucking awesome title matches. Taker/Michaels, HHH/Cactus Jack, Taker/Yokozuna, Rock/Mankind. WTF happened?

Everything is built up for one day of the year now: WM Sunday. No huge match is allowed to happen but there. If it hits it hits huge. If it misses it misses huge.

Well we've got the four big PPVs. Survivor Series is for the SS matches, the ROyal RUmble is for the Royal RUmbl match, SummerSlam has lost its lustre in recent years. As KB said, they save the big matches for WM now.
Also, why isn't this in the Wrestling forums?

Summerslam and Survivor Series don't even really matter much anymore if you think about it. The only mystique and aura about them is that there's more of a possibility that someone will win a title than if its at the Great American Bash or Unforgiven or something. But really, what's so great about Summerslam right now? At least Survivor Series has the 10 man tag matches (most of the time), but Summerslam typically has nothing special about it.
Royal Rumble's always a good ppv because of the length of the rumble itself. If it was only a half hour long, it would most likely be one of their WORST ppvs lol. But despite how we usually don't have a complex undercard, this year we're actually getting two decent matches (Melina/Beth and Hardy/Edge).
But the Royal Rumble has always been a favorite of mine. I love that match. If I'm bored out of my mind and I feel like watching something fun, I'll YouTube a Royal Rumble from the past. Even though you know for a fact that there are only like 10 legitimate people that could win, and you usually can narrow it down to 3 guys, and you know that someone will be eliminated really fast and someone will be attacked on their way to/from the ring, etc etc etc, its still awesome. Gotta love that feeling you get when you're counting down and the fans are totally off-sync with the clock. 10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1!! ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......*someone's music comes on, you either get real happy or real pissed* lol

That might be true, but it's the WWE's fault. If I remember correctly, Vince or Shane said about 2 years ago that SummerSlam was the 2nd biggest show (not including Tribute to the Troops). With that in mind, it's the WWE's fault for not giving SummerSlam the build up it deserves, and giving us lackluster matches most of the time. Albiet, this year had 'Taker vs Edge in HIAC and Batista vs John Cena, but the latter got barely any build up. They should promote SummerSlam properly, have it outdoors like WM24 was (obviously a smaller stadium) and give it a proper feel. I know they do the SummerFest stuff but give it more exposure, have that last more than one day.

The way I've seen it, Wrestlemania is the best "entertainment" show of the year, but Summerslam is usually the best "wrestling" show of the year. Throughout the years, I've always thought that Summerslam was the better wrestling show. It's Wrestlemania, but without all of the celebrity and pyro.

Because when it comes down to it, the attraction to The Royal Rumble is The Royal Rumble match. As long as they have solid matches on the undercard, who cares?
Cena/JBL always put on a halfway decent match. The Edge/Jeff Hardy match, which we really haven't gotten too many one on one matches of, should be pretty good, and will probably feature Christian's return.
