Not sure if anybody caught it but, during his match commentary, Matt Stryker stated that what was going down in the ring was the "real deal" and not some second rate movie. Now what I got from this was that Stryker was talking about the upcoming movie "The Wrestler", which is due out soon. To be honest, it kind of confused me, because the Shawn Michaels storyline on RAW parallels the plot of The Wrestler slightly. So which is it?

Should the WWE be continuing the Shawn Micheals storyline if they are going to dissing the movie that inspired it?

Dude it's Vince being Vince. If he didn't create it or makes no profits off of it, he will diss it. The thing is, there's really no direct connection to HBK and the movie, so Vince can get as much as he can out of it and still say that it's different.

The Wrestler will be infinitely more interesting and intelligent than any professional wrestling storyline.

Mick Foley was asked recently if Vince would like the movie, and this was his response:

I personally don't think Vince will like it, because Vince really believes in the philosophy of keeping wrestling as entertainment for the fans. And part of that is keeping up the mystique of what goes on behind the scenes. I'm not sure he would enjoy a film that shines a light on the hardships that some wrestlers go through.

So yeah, I don't know McMahon personally of course, but this doesn't surprise me. Not only because of Foley's reasons for why Vince wouldn't like the movie, but I think Vince, at this point in time, isn't going to take it well with ANYTHING getting successful that involves professional wrestling without the association of WWE. Vince has worked his ass off to make sure World Wrestling Entertainment is the only pro wrestling product out there that will ever get any mainstream exposure, so when it comes to a movie that's getting unbelievable amounts of hype and praise and it involves pro wrestling and WWE Films didn't have anything to do with it, of course it's going to bug the shit out of Vince. And of course his reaction to that will be to bury in it in ways Striker did on ECW.

I'm sure from a wrestlers perspective the film is full of innacuracies. People who don't watch or work in wrestling might like it. But most of us will pick holes in it.

We might like it at first because it's a serious film about a sport that is generally mocked. But after time most of us will think it's shit. Probably, I ain't seen it.
